Where It All Started

In memory of Clare & Ron Thomson
1987
Recognising the need for interior doors and timber joinery specialists on the Kapiti Coast, the late Ron Thomson and his son Tony Thomson founded Paraparaumu Doors & Mouldings in 1987.
It all began in a small factory on Rimu road in Paraparaumu with father and son, and Ron’s wife Clare in the office. They worked tirelessly and begun to create a good customer base building up a name for themselves.
1991 - 1993
In 1991, Tony’s wife Shona took over from Clare and begun her work with the team and was a part of seeing the business succeed.
As time went on and the business steadily grew a larger factory was required and they moved to Kapiti Road in 1993.
2000 - 2014
As demand grew the new factory catered to the increasing requirements of the customers’ needs and with the business succeeding so well and having a good local name, Ron Thomson retired and handed the full reins over to his son Tony in the year 2000.
Ron’s grandson and Tony’s son Adam begun his joinery apprenticeship in 2004 with the company, ready to learn from the ground up.
Over the next 10 years the building industry continued to grow, and Paraparaumu Doors & Mouldings became one of the three top door suppliers in the wider Wellington region. With Tony’s “know how-can do” attitude the business was excelling.

2015
The Kapiti Road factory was now too small to accommodate the increasing customer demands and in 2015 the business moved to their current factory at 14 Manchester Street, Paraparaumu. The 1000 sq. metre factory is currently a good size for the business. This same year, Adam’s wife Daphne joined the business.

Adam & Daphne Thomson
2017
In 2017, Adam and Daphne made a smart investment and chose to buy shares into the family business and the company Paraparaumu Doors & Joinery Ltd was established.
With Adam in the office, he has brought a mindset of future business growth, developing new strategic systems, formulating computer software programmes and a new-age customer focused initiative.
2020
By 2020, Shona retired from the company and Tony began to ease back from business. At this time Adam and Daphne continued to grow the business and were constantly trying to improve systems and provide a workplace that their employees enjoyed being a part of.
Present Day
In March 2025 Tony officially retired and handed the reigns and business over to Adam and Daphne so he could go and enjoy the fruits of all his hard labour and efforts that he put in over the past 38 years.
Looking to the future Adam and Daphne are eager to continue the successful family legacy and continue to better the business.
